Top Tips for Winter Driving
The weather is getting colder and the days are getting shorter but, before you consider jumping into your car for the school run, driving to work or heading off on a trip away, we’ve got some tips on how to prepare your vehicle and keep your journeys safe through the winter months.
Here are our winterising tips for your car. We hope you find them useful.
- Book your vehicle in for a pre-winter check
- Tyre Pressure and tread check. Make sure your tyres are properly inflated. Over-inflated tyres can result in premature wear, a harsh ride and poor handling. Under-inflated tyres can cause poor handling, premature wear, increased fuel consumption and tire overheating. And check that the tread hasn’t worn low.
- Check your lights are operating
- Oil and filter change – the more often chassis lubrication is done, the better for your car.
- Check your battery
- Check your wiper blades
- Fill your washer fluid
- Check your coolant – If you’re visiting the snowfields, it’s imperative you have your cooling system and coolant concentration checked prior.
- Fill your tank – at least half or completely full.
- Be more alert of other drivers – especially in heavy rain and other tricky conditions. Drive carefully and pay attention to other drivers; not everyone is as well-prepared for winter.
